How do you thank someone for inspiring your career? With a personalized magic trick, and a ridiculous giant balloon, of course! Truly an honour to perform magic for WEIRD AL YANKOVIC! The popular prince of parody perked up profusely at a personalized performance- his recent guest star appearance in a MAD Magazine magically morphing into money before his eyes! (AL’s reaction: “WOW! Very nice!!”) After giving AL a giant balloon caricature of himself, he was asked if he’d ever gotten such a gift before. AL quickly quipped: “That’s the first one tonight!” AL’s nearly two hour show had more energy, goofiness and fun than a monkey full of barrels. You’ll be pleased to know he played *everything*, and he’s still got it. Lost count of all his costume changes!! AL even used the giant balloon *IN* his show! It...

More Magic in Newfoundland…with SHAUN MAJUMDER!

Posted on Jul 1, 2015 in News

Always a treat and a cheer to perform on The Rock! This year was extra special, as The Amazing Mr. J also got to perform some magic for Gemini-winning actor/comedian Shaun Majumder! While at his private mansion-in-the-making (Majumder Manor!), the ever-gracious TV star showed me some stunning scenery, and also why he is the pride of Burlington. Truly a first class ambassador for Newfoundland! Lesson learned: it’s difficult to perform magic when you yourself are laughing hysterically! Majumder’s natural hilarious manner meant trying very hard to concentrate when holding magic items. Fortunately, his reaction to a money-appearing trick was equally enthusiastic: “WHAT!!” screamed Shaun incredulously (and hilariously). “Hey, I like that! Now can you do something about my ceiling?” (Check out the video!) Following some other shows in King’s Point and La Scie (along with some impromptu house shows...

CBC celebrated 45 years of its staple show ‘Information Morning’, and there was definitely magic in the air! The new Halifax library was filled with a capacity crowd, lots of cake, plus the familiar faces of Peter Coade, Sarah Haliburton, Frank Cameron and many more. A fun group for which to entertain! Especially jolly was beloved radio host Don Connolly, who excitedly responded to some magic tricks: “That’s slick! That was very...

Big thanks to Dianne Kelderman and The Nova Scotia Co-operative Council for inviting The Amazing Mr. J to perform for their 66th Annual Gala! Considering that in past years, they’ve invited the likes of CBC’s Peter Mansbridge, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, and legendary civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, this was a prestigious honour. What a great...

Pleasure to be able to perform for the annual ‘Walk to Fight Arthritis’ event in Halifax, and thanks to everyone for their support. With 1 in 4 Nova Scotians living with arthritis, you’re almost certainly helping your own friends and neighbours. As a regular TV host of The Arthritis Telethon on local cable for many years, it’s great to also be able to use magic and balloons in ‘the real world’ to entertain folks at this special event. Special thanks to Bianca Toulany, Ryan Richard, June Mitchell, Susan Tilley-Russell (Executive Director) and all the organizers for all their superb efforts and organizing. See you next...

Free Comic Book Day 2015!

Posted on May 2, 2015 in News

Every year, on the first Saturday in May, Strange Adventures Comic Bookshops (and many other comic stores around the world) celebrate Free Comic Book Day! It’s like an early Christmas!! What started in 2002 as promotional idea has turned into a full-out celebration of reading, comics and imagination, as grown-ups and kids by the thousand dress up in their favourite costumes to join in the fun! From a personal standpoint, it doesn’t get much cooler than performing magic and making balloon creations for a huge group of costumed kids of all ages…alongside Spider-Man himself! See you in 2016!...

Music & Magic at the Marigold! (A CMHA Fundraiser)

Posted on Apr 25, 2015 in News

An amazing night of sharing stories, music and magic at the Marigold! Every penny raised from the all-volunteer evening went to support the Colchester Mental Health Association. Thanks to a packed house, we were able to raise several thousand dollars in one evening! Special thanks to guest speaker Mr. Greg Purvis (Director, addictions Canada), Anita Benedict (town crier intro), the wonderful Susan Henderson (CMHA), very talented musicians David Morrison and Shelter, our amazing local MLA Lenore Zann (who bravely shared her own story, as well as MCing and performing live), and The Immortal Mike Robinson (professional cruise ship/corporate entertainer, and in my humble opinion, the greatest ventriloquist of all-time!) On a personal note, it was a real treat to share the stage with so many stellar talents, all sharing their stories and gifts. Mike Robinson has been a solid...

Beloved Cape Breton weatherman FRANKIE MacDONALD got a magic balloon rainbow, and some free birthday cash as a gift from The Amazing Mr. J, with thanks and gratitude for the joy he has brought to thousands. Though autistic, Frankie has not let this stop him from pursuing his dream as a weatherman, and his passionate online style has won him millions of fans worldwide. Frankie loves what he does, and definitely appreciates that his growing popularity also brings joy to others. He always happily makes time for everyone who wants to talk with him (an admirable quality for any celebrity). As a fan, it was an honour to perform a few quick magic tricks for Frankie on his birthday, and simply to say, on behalf of everyone: “You’re awesome, Frankie…and thank...
